5th Grade Graduation Ideas

A fifth-grade graduation marks entry into middle or junior high school.

A fifth-grade graduation marks the student's departure from elementary school on to middle school or junior high school. It's a coming-of-age ceremony, as students are no longer considered young children by the school district. However, they are not yet older students, as they will reach that milestone later when they enter high school.

Gifts

Since the students will be entering a new school next fall, purchase them school supplies and equipment. Students get a lot of use out of backpacks, as the wear-and-tear on this school equipment adds up throughout the school year. Purchase a new backpack for the student. The student can also use new pens, pencils, notebook paper, a calculator and a ruler. If the student has a locker at school, purchase a combination lock for it, so his possessions are secure.

Speakers

The speakers at a fifth-grade graduation can include school faculty and administration, business and civic leaders and also students. The teachers, principals and administrators at both the outgoing fifth-grade student's current school and at the middle school or junior high school that she will attend can speak about what lies ahead for them. Business and civic leaders can speak to the fifth-graders about setting goals, making wise decisions and peer pressure. To get the students involved in the graduation ceremony, speeches can be delivered by the valedictorian and salutatorian.

Invitations

The invitations for the graduation ceremony should be professional, but students can be involved in the design phase. Since it's their graduation, you can feature a picture of the class on the front of the invitation. Inside, include the school's name, along with the date, time and location of the ceremony.

Decorations

The venue for the graduation ceremony should be decorated with an older student in mind. You don't want the ceremony to resemble a kindergarten graduation ceremony. Pick the colors. This will be easy, as you should pick the school colors. Purchase balloons in the school's colors. You can purchase balloons with no messages on them, or those that have messages that read "Happy Graduation" or "Congratulations." Purchase your novelty items, such as miniature graduation hats, school books and other items. The ceremony can be held in the school auditorium, gym or even in a classroom, if it's a small graduating class.
