Outdoor weddings can be a beautiful affair but they can be very risky because of Mother Nature's unpredictability. Instead of risking rain or snow, think of renting a outdoor wedding tent for the reception. Even if you plan on having the ceremony outdoors, at least you have a place to hold both the ceremony and reception should the weather not cooperate. A wedding tent is one idea because it acts as a blank canvas for any decor you desire.
Flowers
Flowers are a major expense of every wedding; if you incorporate the use of a reception tent at your wedding you may use even more flowers than normal. Flowers can easily mask a boring white tent. Decorate a tent with strings of flowers, bouquets of flowers on pedestals and in pots at the entrance of the tent and around the wedding party table. Hang foam balls covered with flowers from the ceiling. Instead of flowers use small potted trees and topiaries or for a contemporary look use large bare branches or trees.
Lighting
Lighting is a vital element to create the right ambiance and mood for your wedding reception. Choose lighting that is soft, not too harsh and be sure to put light in the proper areas of the tent; around the reception tables, on the dance floor and near the wedding cake are good places to highlight. Use string lights or icicle lights to give the tent extra sparkle. Use colored lights that reflect off the roof of the tent to create a certain mood or to match with the wedding colors.
Adding Color
Most tents are plain white. Unless you are sticking with white as your main wedding color, you need to be sure to add a boost of color to the reception tent. This can be accomplished by draping tulle along the ceiling of the tent or around the walls of the tent. Another idea is to hang colored lanterns from the ceiling in coordinating colors. Chandeliers are another fun touch because they can be found in a multitude of colors aside from the traditional gold or silver; think elaborate black or fuschia-colored chandeliers.
Other Decor Ideas
Decorating a wedding tent is only limited to your imagination. To make your wedding tent feel like another world, decorate it with a certain theme in mind; a Greek-inspired theme would be made complete with sculptures and pillars; create a beach or luau feel with palm trees, Mexican lanterns, pinatas and colorful lighting; for a more modern feel hang large empty picture frames along the walls of the tent and set out modern-style furniture for seating. Other decorating ideas include candles, balloons and stars hung from the ceiling.
