Beach Wedding Reception Food Ideas

Creative food stations or passed hors d'oeuvres themed around a beach wedding can be festive and full of flavor.

Beach weddings give planners the leeway for creativity when it comes to production, food and d cor. There are many food creations that can be added to the reception's menu themed around a tropical paradise. The food selection can consist of tropical flavors to exotic fruits craftily put together in whimsical presentations to perfectly fit your beach wedding theme.

Watermelon Fruit Bowl

Removing the top of a watermelon and then scooping most of the flesh from inside will create the ideal fruit bowl for an assortment of fresh fruits to be placed inside. Chop a variety of fresh fruits, such as cantaloupe, mandarins, pineapples, strawberries, kiwi, grapes and the melon itself, into chucks. You can create a rich syrup to pour over the fruit by boiling water and sugar in a small saucepan and adding lemon zest for flavor. Pour the syrup over the fruit while generously mixing the fruits to create an assorted blend of tropical flavors.

Ceviche Station

Ceviche is a popular Central and South American appetizer consisting of chopped fish "cooked" in citrus juice. A ceviche station offering an assortment of chopped fish including shrimp, lobster, crab, scallop, halibut and even tofu can be set up in several bowls. Other garnishes such as avocados, onions, chilies, herbs, lime juice and spices can be labeled and set aside for guests to prepare to their liking. Once the guests have deliciously tossed together their unique dish in provided mixing bowls, they can then scoop and fill their ceviche into prepared martini glasses with corn chips.

Robata Tapas

Robata grilling is the traditional Japanese method of grilling meats, seafood and vegetables over an authentic open binchotan charcoal fire. You can create a luau feel by having skewered hors d'oeuvres that consist of seafood favorites like prawns, scallops and coconut shrimp. You can also try some citrus grilled vegetable favorites like eggplant, sweet potatoes or asparagus, which all make excellent fish pairings.

Pig Roast

Any authentic luau will typically have a traditional pig roast. Set a large whole hog on a rotisserie over an open fire pit while coating the skin with kosher salt. The pig should have plenty of flavor on its own, but feel free to rub some tangy pineapple juice on the pig inside and out. It typically takes about an hour and 15 minutes for every 10 pounds, but the sight of a whole pig roasting over a fire pit is remarkable and creates an air of celebration and festive times. You can also add a slider station with Hawaiian rolls, BBQ sauce and other condiments and garnishes so those who wish to make their own pulled pork creations can do so.
