Flip Flops
Flip flop decorating is a craft for young and old. With skills as simple as gluing on a flower or a rhinestone or braiding a strand of leather you can easily and quickly transform plain flops into works of art.
Glamorous Flops
Add a touch of glam to your flip flops with flat backed rhinestones covering the straps and a few more scattered around the back rims so you'll look good coming and going. Glue the rhinestones onto the flip flops with strong craft glue like E-6000 or clear Liquid Nail; just add a drop of glue and press the rhinestone into place. Beautiful Swarovski crystal rhinestones are available for the discriminating crafter, or grab a colorful bag of plastic rhinestones at a craft store.
Braided Flops
Add a bit of natural style to your flip flips with a strand of braided leather attached to the straps. Find rolls of leather cording at the craft store; just cut three 18-inch sections, tie them together at one end and create a braid. Fit your braid to your flip flops before you cut the leather and tie the strands together at the opposite end. Once you have a braid that fits, glue the strand to your flip flop straps with strong craft glue.
Fluffy Ribbon Flops
Make a fashion statement with bits of ribbon tied all over your flip flop straps. You'll need narrow ribbon, ½-inch at the most, cut in 4-inch strips. Use one color or ribbon design, or mix it up with a variety of colors and designs. Tie each 4-inch strip around the straps in a double knot with the ends facing up. Leave the ends long and fluffy or trim them for a cropped look.
Floral Flops
Consider adding one large flower blossom to the center of your flip flop straps for a quick and easy craft project. Decorating your flip flops with a flower, or flowers, is as simple as cutting the blossom from the stem and gluing it onto your straps with hot glue. You can be out the door with your new flops in a matter of minutes. The downside of this method is that the glue may not hold as long as you like. If you have more time, glue the flowers on with strong craft glue for flops you can enjoy all season long.
