Halloween Flyer Ideas

Publicize your Halloween party and fill your house with scary fun!

Throwing a Halloween block party or opening up your "haunted" house to the neighborhood sounds like a ton of fun for you and the kids, but getting the word out might be tough. Telling your friends and neighbors only goes so far, so try designing and printing your own flyers to promote your shindig. Does this Spark an idea?

The Right Color

You'll want the flyer to be eye-catching, but not so bright or stark that it hurts readers' eyes. The three colors often associated with Halloween decorations are black, orange, and purple. Black text on a white background is too common to be noticed, while white text on a black background could be too stark; a purple background has a similar problem. The two best options are black text on orange for a classic Halloween look, or orange or purple font on white for fun, easy reading.

Information

Providing as much information as you're comfortable with will give potential guests confidence in you as a host. You'll want to include your address, date, start and end times and a contact option. The contact option can be a phone number or email address. If you don't want to give out such personal information, you can create an email address specifically for the event.

Text and Art

In the text editor you are using, scroll through a number of fonts to find one that has the feel you like, but make sure it is readable from 10 feet away. If you are using a simple text editor such as Microsoft Word, you will have clip art options. It is likely you will find clip art such as bats or pumpkins that would serve as a signal that you are advertising a Halloween event. You can also save pictures from the Internet and import them into your file if you don't find satisfactory clip art.

Social Networking

During October, change your Facebook profile photo to a picture of your flyer, and have your family members do the same. Whenever you and your family members do anything on the site, your friends will see the flyer on their news feeds. This will work as a friendly reminder about the party without bombarding everyone. You can also create an event on Facebook with the same information that is on your flyer and use the flyer as a profile picture.

Placement

In addition to the usual telephone poles you'll tape the flyers to, you can also place flyers into the mailboxes in your neighborhood. Bookstores, libraries, senior citizen centers and some diners have bulletin boards or spots to place your flyers. If you have children or know children in school, have them bring flyers to school to pass around.
