Easytomake Baby Shower Centerpiece

Go with something a little more interesting than just a bouquet of flowers.

Create a baby shower centerpiece that will be the talk of the party. You can make centerpieces that are edible, or create an inedible one that the mom-to-be can take home at the end of the shower. Towel cakes, real cakes, watermelon baby carriages and an assortment of lollipops and cookies make wonderful centerpieces that will brighten up the table considerably. Does this Spark an idea?

Towel Cake

Create a towel cake for the middle of the food table. You will need two bath towels, two hand towels and two washcloths to create the three tiers of this cake. Use towels in blue or pink, or use white, green or yellow if you don't know the gender of the baby. Wrap a ribbon around the base of each layer. Decorate the cake with baby rattles, pacifiers, bottles and small dolls or figurines. Once the shower is over, the mom-to-be can take the cake home and use its components for her new baby.

Real Cake

Make or purchase a real cake to use not only as the centerpiece, but also as dessert. Many cake decorators bake more than just standard sheet cakes; cakes come in baby shapes, pregnant belly shapes or animal shapes. Get one that matches the theme of the baby shower. If you want to make your own, consider making a simple tiered cake with ribbon wrapped around the bottom of each tier. Add piped flowers or simple dots and stripes for decoration.

Watermelon and Fruit Salad Carriage

Lay a watermelon on its side and two thirds from one end, make a cut about halfway through the melon. From there, slice across the two thirds to the end and lift that large piece of melon off. Hollow out the remaining melon and fill the rind with melon balls, strawberries, grapes and other assorted fruits. Make cardboard wheels and stick them into the melon with toothpicks. This baby carriage centerpiece is spectacular to look at, and it is an easy way to serve a yummy fruit salad.

Lollipops and Cookies

Make your own candy or chocolate lollipops using molds from the craft store. They come in all sorts of shapes and styles, so make booties, rattles, balls and ABC blocks. Place the lollipop sticks into a vase that has a ribbon wrapped around it.

Do the same with the cookies. Bake flat sugar cookies; put icing on the back of half the cookies and make sandwiches, ensuring that you put sticks in between the cookies as well. Frost the front of the cookies with stripes or dots, the baby's name or any other decoration you think is appropriate.
