Bbq Party Decorating Ideas

Texas-style BBQ in Prattville, Alabama

BBQ party decorations don't have to have cookie-cutter style. A host that uses out-of-the-ordinary colors and patterns for a BBQ is making a powerful statement. This is because party decorations play an important role in creating a fun and lively atmosphere at a BBQ. Does this Spark an idea?

Selecting Colors

There are many fabric options for BBQ party napkins and tablecloths. Traditionally, gingham is the fabric of choice, and it comes in a variety of colors. The most popular color is red and white, but blue and white also is fairly common.

To step out of the BBQ party box, however, selecting a different fabric is a great idea. Choose patterns with western designs, horses or food-related items such as BBQ grills, hamburgers or hot dogs.

Making Tablecloths and Napkins

It is not necessary to purchase pre-made tablecloths and napkins. They are easy to make with only a pair of pinking shears, a tape measure, ruler, chalk and fabric.

Outdoor tablecloths need to be measured to hang about one foot over the edge of the table, so when taking measurements, allow for the extra overhang. Napkins generally measure 20 inches by 20 inches square, and patterns can be made directly on the fabric by using a ruler and chalk.

Make sure that napkins only accent the tablecloths; they should not be the same color or pattern. If using a patterned fabric for tablecloth, select a solid color for the napkins, and if using a solid color fabric for the tablecloths, select a patterned fabric for the napkins.

Choosing Accessories

Tabletop accessories are a must for a BBQ, and since many BBQ parties are held outside, the outdoor center at the local store is the perfect place to find them.

Instead of using glass vases for bouquets of flowers, find interesting flower pots that fit into the color scheme chosen. Silver watering cans also can be used to hold flowers.

Some great flowers for a BBQ party include sunflowers, bluebonnets, magnolias and dogwood blossoms. Make sure that flower arrangements have plenty of greenery as well as flowers.

Adding a whimsical touch to the flower arrangements may be an unexpected surprise. If using a pattern theme with the napkins or tablecloths, select items that are pictured in the fabric. If using solid colors or gingham, find small objects like gardening hand tools or gardening gloves to add to the flower arrangement.
