Barbie Princess Birthday Ideas

Celebrate your little girl's birthday with a Barbie princess-themed party.

Many little girls dream of being a Barbie princess, which makes it an ideal birthday party theme for those girls. Make your daughter's dream come true for a day by centering a Barbie birthday party around her, making her the Barbie princess. Carry the theme throughout all of the details of the party while using your little girl's personality to guide you in determining the exact decorations and activities. Does this Spark an idea?

Invitations

Homemade, personalized invitations will convey the specialness of your daughter's birthday party better than the generic store-bought variety. Cut out a shape in construction paper or cardstock---such as a tiara or princess ball gown---to get your guests excited about the theme.

Or, make paper or cardboard Barbie dolls with a couple of different paper outfits that your guests can actually play with, and write the party information on the back.

Use a computer to design your invitations if you're better with a computer than crafty projects. Include images of a princess Barbie, a castle or other related items. Write your daughter's name using the same font as Barbie.

Decorations

Turn your party room into a luxurious room fit for a princess. Hang posters of your daughter's favorite princess, make a large castle mural on one wall or use pink, purple and white balloons and streamers.

Drape material, such as silk or organza, on the furniture or walls for a luxurious feel. Use table cloths or drape organza around the party tables.

Large appliance boxes can be decorated to look like a castle and serve as a play area for the girls. A little creativity can go a long way.

Activities

Create a dress-up area for the girls to have their hair and makeup done---just like princesses---and to dress up with princess costumes, feather boas and faux jewelry, if you already have an abundance of supplies. Otherwise, ask guests to come dressed up for the princess theme. Turn these costumes into a Barbie princess fashion show.

Let the girls decorate their own tiaras with faux jewels, such as rubies, emeralds and rhinestones. This activity turns each girl into a princess and gives them something special to take home. An alternative is to have the girls make necklaces or bracelets.

Make princess wands out of large foam stars and empty paper towel rolls. The girls can decorate their stars however they want.

Invite your guests to bring their favorite Barbie dolls, or use your daughter's dolls if there are enough for each guest to play with one. The girls can have free Barbie play.

Put a Barbie twist on classic games, such as Pass the Tiara, Pin-the-Tiara-on-Princess or a Barbie pinata.

Food

Small, dainty finger foods are ideal for little princess hands. Use a cookie cutter to shape sandwiches, fruit and cookies into Barbie princess-related shapes, such as hearts, wands or tiaras. Use red food coloring to turn other things, such as cheese for pizza or pasta dishes, into pink food. Serve strawberry lemonade or pink grapefruit juice with pink ice cubes.

Cake

Create a Barbie princess cake by using a real doll as the centerpiece, and stacking the cake to look like the skirt of a ballgown. The ballgown, including the top, should be created with frosting and should display elaborate designs. Make a tiara-, castle- or Barbie-shaped cake. Embellish a regular sheet cake with a Barbie on top or miniature Barbie princess figurines.

Favors

Use a small pink bag or marabou-trimmed purse as the favor bag. Include pink lip gloss, nail polish, chocolate wand suckers, bubble wands, a Barbie doll, Barbie clothes, Barbie stickers, princess Barbie coloring books or other princess Barbie-related items. Include digital pictures from the party in the favor bag or thank you cards, especially if the girls put on a princess Barbie fashion show.
