Children'S Backyard Birthday Ideas

Kids love to play outdoors, so the backyard can be an ideal setting for a child's birthday party. Celebrate in style with these simple ideas for food, games and activities for a backyard birthday party. Does this Spark an idea?

Feed the Guests

You're in the backyard, so you might as well cook out. Put your grill to good use and make kid-friendly hamburgers and hot dogs for lunch. If adults are present, you may want to make barbecue chicken or steaks for them. For side dishes, try corn on the cob. Kids love this messy, traditional cookout food. Serve other healthy snacks, such as fruit salad or melon balls, to go with it.

To keep the bugs from enjoying the drinks, you may want to purchase paper cups with lids.

Games and Activities

Purchase a sandbox or a kiddie pool and let the children have some messy fun. Or let them play with outdoor toys, such as big balls, bubbles and sidewalk chalk.

You can set up an easy obstacle course or have activity stations for jumping jacks, jumping rope and playing with hula hoops around the yard. A pinata can also be fun; tie it to a nearby tree and let the kids bash away.

Decorations

Let your lawn do most of the decorating for you. Make sure your grass has recently been mowed, and plant some attractive flowers or shrubs.

Put a pretty plastic tablecloth on a picnic table or card table for your food. Hang decorative lighting or use tiki torches if your party will continue into the evening. Play kid-friendly songs so your guests can dance and sing the day away.
