Rainbow Web 2 is the sequel to the puzzle video game Rainbow Web. The main objective of this game is similar to many other games available, to match colored bubbles and clear them from the game board. What sets Rainbow Web apart from other games are the web-shaped game board and the objective of freeing letters from bubbles.
Bejeweled 2
In Bejeweled 2, you begin with a game board filled to the top with gems of six different colors and shapes. From there, two adjacent gems may be switched in order to form a line of three or more identical gems. Once three or more gems in a row have been aligned, they disappear and new ones fall to take their place. This dynamic ensures that the game board is never empty. According to PopCap Games, there are four special gems that can greatly affect your game play. The first is a power gem. Power gems are formed by matching four gems with one switch. A random gem is selected and begins to glow brightly. Power gems are capable of causing large 3x3 explosions and gaining you a hefty point bonus. The next special gem is the hyper cube. Hyper cubes are formed with the alignment of five gems and appear as a gem of swirling color. When swapped with an adjacent gem, all gems of that color are eliminated from the board. Finally, in puzzle mode there are bombs and rocks. Bombs act as power gems and tick away with each successful swap made. When the counter reaches zero a 3x3 explosion occurs. Rocks are obstacles that can only be cleared away by hyper cubes or bombs. Overall, Bejeweled 2 is a puzzle game that also focuses on matching three colors to clear away pieces, and adds the element of special gems to help build combos and points.
Puzzle Quest Challenge of the Warlord
Puzzle Quest is a puzzle adventure game that was originally made for the Playstation Portable, but has migrated to a multitude of platforms, including the Nintendo DS and Wii, Playstation 2 and 3, Windows and Mac, Microsoft Xbox 360 and mobile phones. A player starts with a character with a profession and individual attributes. Each profession has their own individual skill set used to battle. Each battle gains the player gold to equip their character and experience to make stronger spells. The game play of this Puzzle Quest mainly involves the character completing quests and fighting enemies along the way. Battles take place with a match three battle similar to Rainbow Web 2. Matching colors gives power for spells and matching skulls initiates an attack. Overall, although the play is similar to the match 3 dynamic of Rainbow Web 2, Puzzle Quest adds an adventure element that allows the player to become stronger as the game progresses.
Zuma's Revenge!
In Zuma's Revenge!, players assume the role of a frog that shoots colored balls from its mouth. A series of balls follows various tracks and the player must shoot colored balls to form a match of three colors in a row. By matching three or more colors, the balls disappear and a temporary gap forms until balls roll to catch up with the rest of the line. The level ends when the player clears all of the balls or the train of balls reaches the end of the track, signified with a glowing skull. PopCap Games has added power up balls to this game that can be obtained by destroying them. These power ups are a visual guide to show where a ball will land when shot, power ups that slow down or reverse the direction of the train of balls, a three-way cannon, a laser that destroys single balls, a bomb and a lightning power up that destroys all balls of a chosen color. This game is different in that colored balls are not arranged in a web or grid pattern, but are constantly moving down a wide array of tracks. It requires timing and coordination of the player, as well as strategic planning.
