Girls Hula Birthday Party Ideas

Leis and pineapples work well at a hula party.

The hula theme appeals to girls of all ages no matter what time of year a birthday falls. A summer hula party takes advantage of warm temperatures to create a mock beach scene. A winter hula party brings a little sunshine when the temperatures are low and the snow is flying. Incorporate the hula theme into all aspects of the birthday party planning for a tropical party wonderland. Does this Spark an idea?

Grass Skirts

Purchase a grass skirt for each young party guest. Party supply stores sell inexpensive grass skirts that work well for the party. If the guests are really young or small in stature, cut the grass skirts to size so they don't trip. Hot glue a row of tropical silk flowers along the waistband of the grass skirts to make them more appealing to the little girls. The skirts transform all of the guests into little hula dancers. The grass skirts also work well on the tables as a table skirt.

Leis

Flower leis are another staple at a hula party. Party supply stores often sell luau supplies during the spring and winter months. This is an ideal time to stock up on leis. Purchase one for each guest and some extras for decorations. The leis work well to dress up any of the tables or to hang around the room.

Hula Dancer

Look in the yellow pages to see if there are any hula dancers in the area. Another idea is to contact local dance studios to see if they have anyone who knows hula dancing. Hire one of the hula dancers to provide entertainment at the party. The professional hula dancer teaches the young girls do some basic hula moves. The girls can then put on a show for their parents at the party.

Tropical Menu

Serve the guests food with a tropical theme. Fruit kabobs with tropical fruits such as pineapple, mango, bananas and chunks of coconut work well. Hollow out the coconut and pineapples to hold food or to use as tropical cups. You don't have to roast a pig luau-style, but you can serve shredded pork as the main dish at the party. A cake covered in tropical flowers rounds out the hula party menu plan. You can either make the flowers out of fondant or use silk flowers on top of the cake.

Favors

A bag of tropically themed treats makes an ideal party favor idea for the guests. A colorful cellophane bag works well to hold all of the treats. Include items such as sunglasses, pretty flip-flops, beach balls, floral hair clips, tropically scented lip balm and miniature hula dolls for the guests. Close the bag with a ribbon, and hot glue a tropical silk flower to it as the final touch.
