Sunny Poipu Beach on Kauai is near world-class golf and resorts.
Scenic views from palm-dotted greens, world-class golf courses and a year-round inviting climate beckon golfers to Hawaii. The Hawaiian Islands is the site of more than 70 golf courses, and several of these are associated with hotels and resorts. Whether planning a golf vacation on Oahu, Maui, Hawaii's Big Island or on Kauai, you have an array of golf hotels in Hawaii from which to choose.
Big Island of Hawaii
Home to one of the most active volcanoes in the world, the Big Island is also known for its golf. In fact, the Hawaii Tourism Authority calls it "The Golf Capital of Hawaii." Golf hotels include world-class resorts on the sun-drenched Kohala Coast, such as the Mauna Kea and Hapuna Beach Prince.
"Cond Nast" once dubbed the Mauna Kea and Hapuna two of the best courses in the world, and their resorts are also world-class. The Mauna Kea Resort fronts a pretty white sand beach and features rich teak furnishings, Pacific-Asian art, an ocean-view pool, a luau and full-service spa. The Hapuna Beach Prince is a luxury hotel popular with families and it fronts one Hawaii's best beaches, Hapuna.
Maui
The Valley Isle is widely known for its beautiful luxury hotels and resorts, some of which are also home to world-class golf courses. On the south shore, Maui offers a string of golf hotels, including the Wailea Golf Resort, with its courses rated among the best in the nation by "Golf Magazine" and "Golf Digest."
The Grand Wailea is a luxurious, beachfront resort with five notable golf courses nearby. It has Polynesian settings, a lazy river pool, Tarzan-like water playgrounds, and one of Hawaii's largest spas.
Oahu
Oahu, home to Waikiki Beach, hosts well-known golf championships such as the Sony Open and Turtle Bay Championship, yet only a handful of the island's 40 courses are associated with hotels. Two of these are the Makaha and Turtle Bay resorts.
On Oahu's leeward side, the Makaha Resort & Golf Club features the William K. Bell classic course that has received accolades such as "island's best" from "Honolulu Magazine." The golf resort is nestled between 1,500-foot volcanic cliffs in the bougainvillea-strewn and peacock-visited green Makaha Valley.
The 3-star resort includes standard rooms and full-kitchen suites. Perched on a North Shore peninsula, the Turtle Bay features Arnold Palmer and George Fazio championship courses, a full-service spa and several complimentary amenities.
Kauai
The oldest and most scenic of Hawaii's main islands, Kauai, hosts world-class golf resorts, such as the North Shore's St. Regis Princeville at Hanalei Resort and the South Shore's Grand Hyatt Resort. The Princeville at Hanalei offers ocean views, casual elegance and two golf courses, including The Prince Golf Course, which has earned the title Hawaii's No. 1 Golf Course from "Golf Digest."
The Grand Hyatt, adjacent to Poipu Bay Golf Course, which hosted the PGA Grand Slam of Golf (1994 to 2006), is an oceanfront 5-star resort with 1920s- and 1930s-inspired architecture, tropical landscapes galore, open-air spa areas and a children's program.
