Fun School Fair Activities

School fairs are often reliable money-makers. Including fun activities draws crowds, increasing the success as students purchase tickets to participate. Not only do activities make more money, they draw in the community as parents attend with their children.

Hair Salon

Many school fairs offer a face painting booth. A hair salon is an expansion on this idea. Set up a booth where students can pay with tickets to have their hair sprayed with temporary hair dye. If you plan ahead, you can probably pick up plenty of these aerosol cans in off-the-wall colors like glittery silver, bright orange, blue, pink, or even a few cans of black at a discount after Halloween. Provide men's button-down shirts for participants to wear over their clothes during the dyeing process and clear safety glasses as well.

Count the Balloons

Students might get a kick out of seeing the principal's car parked in the playground filled with balloons like a clown's car. Let them pay a ticket for a chance to guess how many balloons the car holds. Give a prize to the person who chooses closest without going over. If the principal is the adventurous type, he might volunteer to do something outrageous like shave his head or wear a clown suit to school on Monday if someone guesses the exact amount. Once the guessing is over, the balloons can be let out, and students can have fun stomping on them to pop them.

Sporting Event

A sporting event could be the highlight of your school fair. Some ideas include having two grades compete against each other in an epic flag football standoff, or the teachers going against students in a free throw contest. A sporting contest could also become a money maker as students trade tickets for a chance to face off against the PE teacher or principal in a one-on-one free throw or soccer goal contest. Another idea is to let students pay a ticket to challenge one of their friends to a sporting contest.

Art Exhibit

The school fair is a great time to highlight student art. Set up art throughout the fair, with a small note stating who the artist is and a little information about the piece. The art might be set up in a gallery in the school cafeteria. A few of the older students could even volunteer to work as tour guides, showing parents around the gallery. The gallery could also be set up with tables for arts and crafts that students can pay a ticket to do, such as sand art or spin art.
