Happy Birthday Ideas For Girls

Girls of all ages enjoy sweet treats on their special day.

If you have children, chances are you've been a guest at, as well as hosted, a number of kids' birthday parties. Most parties have similar elements: decorations, gifts and a cake. In a sea of monotony, it is nice to come up with some new and innovative ideas that will help your party stand out in a sea of everyday paper streamers and balloons. Consider infusing some fun, new ideas into your next girl's birthday party. Does this Spark an idea?

Theme Ideas

If you want to wish your girl a happy birthday, throw a themed birthday party in her honor. Typical girl party themes include princess, mermaid and diva. Though these are perfectly acceptable party themes, innovative party themes bring excitement and interest to the event. Check out the local high school and college drama departments to see if any performances are taking place around the time of the birthday. Invite the birthday girl and a group of friends to see a performance together. Allow the performance title and content to dictate your theme. Rent a limousine and use a red carpet to bring added sophistication. Alternately, consider a not-so-typical girl theme. Girls enjoy sports and race cars and might enjoy a traditionally boy-themed party.

Invitations

Store-bought invitations are an acceptable way to get the word out about your birthday party. They come in a variety of styles and you are likely to find one that fits your party theme. However, creating your own invitation can add a special, personal touch to the party. If you have graphic art skills, consider creating a custom invitation that is either printed and mailed or delivered, or simply email the file to potential guests. Craftier people might enjoy using scrapbook materials to create a theme-specific and personalized invitation. Use ribbons, charms and other embellishments to make the cards three dimensional.

Cake

Sheet or round cakes are standard birthday cake shapes. Decorations include drawing directly onto the cake with icing to create a theme-specific design, using cake toppers or simply baking the cake in a cake mold so the cake is shaped in a theme-specific way. No matter what type of cake you are serving guests, be mindful of how the cake is displayed and presented. Use a pretty cake plate, surround the cake with beaded garland or silk flowers, or use edible items to surround the cake. Edible items include candy rocks, appropriate for a mermaid or ocean theme party, and chocolate coins that would be perfect for a pirate theme.

Favors

Giving guests favors is a nice way to give back to them for their friendship, attendance and gift. Simple favor bags can be purchased at dollar stores or party supply stores and can hold candy, stickers and small toys. If you want to do a more creative favor, consider using a small galvanized pail, sand bucket, canvas shopping bag or another receptacle, in lieu of the standard "goody bag." Fill the containers with some usual items like candy and small toys, but surprise your guests with a personalized gift, too. Stickers featuring the guests' names are a nice way to include a personalized gift. Small license plates featuring the guests' names or a handmade cookie with names written in icing are a nice touch.
