Barbecue Party Food Ideas

Get ready for summer with some fresh barbecue ideas.

Each summer, Americans gather around the backyard grill over appetizers, conversation and drinks while they wait for their favorite cuts of meat to come fresh off of the grill. A barbecue is the perfect way to celebrate, or just hang out while enjoying some good food and the beautiful summer weather. Add even more fun to your summer barbecues this year with ideas and themes to spice up your party. Does this Spark an idea?

Bring Your Own Meat

Have a BYOM (bring your own meat) barbecue party. Ask guests bring their favorite cuts of meat and barbecue it for them at the party. This is a great way for everyone to experience a little bit of everything. Provide the sauces and allow them to choose which sauce they want on their meat.

Seafood Only

Host a seafood only barbecue. Serve grilled skewers of shrimp, blackened catfish or salmon fillets, rock lobster tails, clams and even whole crabs if your budget allows. Stuff different fillets of fish with a mixture of bread crumbs, seasonings and crab meat and wrap them in foil to keep the stuffing in as you grill them. Keep some melted garlic butter, homemade tartar sauce and cocktail sauce in bowls or even in separate 2 ounce portion cups so guests can easily mingle while eating.

Vegetarian Barbecue

Though barbecue usually means meat, there are plenty of vegetarian dishes you can whip on the grill. Serve grilled eggplant, grill-roasted corn on the cob with red peppers, garlic and onions. Set up a veggie bar so your guests can choose all the toppings they need to dress up veggie burgers or their grilled eggplant sandwiches.

Babecue Themed Desserts

Make a dessert to fit the barbecue theme. Make a round cake and decorate it with frosting to look like a hamburger, or make a sheet cake and cut it into the shape of a steak or some ribs. Use food coloring to match your icing colors to the colors you want on the cake. Make hot dog pastries by laying two lady fingers so that they are shaped like a hot dog bun. Use a thick bead of brownish red icing down the center to look like a hot dog. Add curvy strips of yellow or bright red icing to look like ketchup and mustard.
