Sunset in Maui

A family vacation to Maui offers sand and surf and can be the ultimate relaxation getaway. Along with fun-filled and educational activities such as snorkeling, volcanoes and whale watching, Maui is a great vacation spot for kids of all ages.

Maui Ocean Center

A comprehensive and educational aquarium, the Maui Ocean Center has collections of sea creatures found throughout the waters in Hawaii. The center features exhibits on whales, tiger sharks, reef sharks, sea turtles, tropical fish and other varieties of marine life. The aquarium also offers walking tours, interactive displays and the 100-foot-long tank at the Turtle Lagoon and Discovery Pool that features starfish and sea urchins.

Snorkeling

Snorkeling in Maui, under adult supervision, is an exciting and educational activity that allows kids to explore the undersea world. Baby Beach in Lahaiana, which has calm water due to the surrounding reef, is ideal for exploring the tropical fish, plants and coral. The Molokini Crater is good for older kids, who can venture to an offshore location. The area also features an inactive volcano that is now home to various marine creatures.

Beaches

Relaxing in the sun and sand is the pinnacle of a Maui vacation, but with kids it can be a challenge. Luckily, Maui offers a plethora of options such as Baby Beach with its calm and tranquil waters and Launiupoko Beach Park, a great beach for kids that has a picnic area. There are also several beaches that are great for kids in Maui including: Kaanapali Kapalua, Olowalu, Kamaole, Big Beach and Wailea Beach with its nearby boardwalk. Many beaches feature recreational areas where kids can enjoy activities such as volleyball, biking and basketball.

Sugar Cane Train

An exciting adventure for a kid who loves trains, the Sugar Cane Train is a 12-mile round trip that provides a stunning view of Hawaii's neighboring islands and its surrounding landscape. The train ride starts at Kaanapali station and crosses a 325-foot wooden trestle. The conductor narrates the tour, noting interesting points and historical facts along the way.

Hana Lava Tubes

The ultimate adventure for kids who love science and volcanoes can be found at Hana Lava Tubes. The caves, which have bright lights and railings, allow kids to explore vegetation, rocks and stalagmites. Visitors can also enjoy a picnic on the grounds and explore the Red Ti Botanical Garden Maze.
