Fourth Of July Family Party Ideas

Fireworks are a good way to end a family Fourth of July celebration.

Whether you call it Independence Day, the Fourth of July or another name, the holiday often brings together family and friends for the summer celebration. Fireworks, picnics and entertainment often are part of the festivities. There are many ways to celebrate at a family Fourth of July party. When you are planning a Fourth of July party, consider the ages of the children and other guests. Does this Spark an idea?

Neighborhood Parade

Take the family Fourth of July festivities to the neighborhood streets with a parade. Wagons, bikes and strollers create the vehicles for the parade. Let the kids decorate the items with red, white and blue streamers and balloons. They can also make homemade drums and other instruments decorated in patriotic colors and designs. March through the neighborhood in a single-file line to share your patriotism with the neighbors.

Fireworks Picnic

Fireworks are a popular entertainment option for the Fourth of July. Kids and adults alike enjoy the colorful displays. Incorporate a fireworks show with a family picnic to celebrate the Fourth of July. Find a local fireworks display that you want to attend. If your home has a good view, host the picnic in your back yard, and watch the fireworks from there. This gives you more options for the food you serve and the games and other activities at the picnic. Another option is to take the picnic on the road to a park or other spot with a good view of the fireworks display.

Carnival

A backyard carnival allows the kids and adults to play games all day long. This idea works well if you're having extended family over for the holiday, so there are more people to play. Things such as a ring toss, ball toss or balloon-popping game work well for the backyard carnival. Hot dogs, popcorn and nachos are simple carnival foods you can serve at home.

Patriotic Scavenger Hunt

A patriotic scavenger hunt keeps the guests moving. Create a list of things that relate to the Fourth of July, patriotism or the government. Things such as coins with certain presidents on them, stars or objects that are red, white or blue work well on the list. You can also set up a treasure hunt with a series of clues hidden around the house and yard. At the end, set up a treasure box of patriotic treats for the family and guests.

Patriotic Crafts

Patriotic crafts are another good form of entertainment for a family Fourth of July party. Simple crafts such as red, white and blue streamer wands, noisemakers and painted flower pots keep the entire family busy. You can also create edible crafts, such as decorated cookies and cupcakes, using red, white and blue frosting and sprinkles.
