You can channel long summer days in crafts.
When summer starts to approach, you may feel inclined to infuse elements of the season into all that you do. Therefore, some arts and crafts projects based on beach umbrellas is appropriate. You might simply engage in such projects to fill in the time or you could introduce them to a group of young artists.
Mini Beach Craft
Create a replica of the beach for your summer home. Use clay to craft all of your miniature figures, including the beach umbrella. Stick with realistic tones for the water and sand to create a feeling of reality. However, you can use bright, summery tones for your beach umbrella. After creating all of the clay pieces, you could stick them into a clay base or use a hot glue gun to attach them to cardboard.
Learning Activity
Use a simple beach umbrella craft to teach young children letters of the alphabet. Create a handout with regular and beach umbrellas on it. Ask the children if they know what letter the regular umbrella starts with. Once they have told you, ask them if they know the difference between the umbrellas. Once you've explained the answer, see if any of the students know what letter the word beach starts with. Allow them to color in the umbrellas.
Simple Paper Craft
Engage youngsters in this simple craft to develop motor skills and encourage creativity. Distribute different colors of construction paper and ask the students to draw and cut out a handle for the umbrella. They can cut out the umbrella from one piece of white construction paper and color it or glue several different colored strips of paper together to create the top. Have them glue together the top and bottom.
Baked Goods
Head to your local craft or baking supplies store and pick up cookie cutters or a cake pan in the shape of umbrellas. Using cake decorating tools, you can make the umbrella in any colors or put a pattern on them. If you are very crafty with baking, make regular cupcakes and then use a decorating bag and tip to draw little beach umbrellas on top of the frosting.
