Dressing up can add to the excitement of your child's Barbie birthday party.
Plan a Barbie birthday party for a girl who loves everything Barbie or dolls in general. Use Barbie as the inspiration to plan each party detail, from the invitations to the cake and everything in between. Your little girl will be thrilled to celebrate her birthday with Barbie's sense of style. Does this Spark an idea?
Invitations
Purchase or make invitations that feature Barbie, or have your child dress up like Barbie and use a picture of her. The invitations should include an abundance of pink or fuchsia and glitter. Use wording that incorporates Barbie, such as "Help Barbie celebrate Sarah's 7th birthday." If the party is a dress-up party, ask guests to wear their favorite Barbie fashion or gown, or ask guests to bring their favorite Barbie if you'd like each guest to bring her own doll.
Decorations
Decorate your home, yard or party location in pinks, purples and reds, using white as a neutral color to balance everything out. Cover the entire ceiling of the party room with pink and white balloons with streamers and tulle draped across the walls. A large sign or banner with your child's name using the Barbie-style font will fit in nicely. Add posters or blown-up pictures of your daughter's favorite Barbies, or display her collection. If she has a Barbie doll house, set that up for the kids to play with, or add it to the decorations.
Activities
Give each girl a Barbie make-over as she arrives, with glittery makeup, nail polish, a new hairstyle and boas, tiaras or other accessories.
Set up a Barbie-inspired fashion show; supply clothes and shoes so the girls can play Barbie dress-up and model their outfit choices.
Have the girls design a new fashion for Barbie, or have each child decorate a tiara or T-shirt. The girls can also make a necklace or key chain out of beads.
Allow some free time for the girls to play with their Barbies. Consider setting up a station where they can go "shopping" for new accessories or outfits. These items can be added to a small favor bag, purse or backpack for the girls to take home with them.
Food
Serve finger foods that can be made into Barbie shapes, flowers and butterflies, or that can be used to spell out encouraging Barbie messages. Crispy rice treats, fruit, cookies, chicken fingers, sandwiches and cheese would work. Or, serve tea and sandwiches for a "Barbie and me" tea party.
Cake
Layer round cakes to create a large skirt to fit around a real Barbie doll. Decorate the top half of Barbie's dress with icing to match the cake skirt; or decorate a typical round or sheet cake with an image of Barbie or pre-made Barbie candy. For quicker clean-up, use Barbie rings to top cupcakes.
Favors
Give each child a Barbie, Barbie accessories, coloring books, crayons, notebooks, purses, backpacks, lip gloss, nail polish and candy; make sure the items tie in with your Barbie party.
