Fun Games For 5th Grade

Fifth graders deserve to have a little fun in the classroom.

While it is important for fifth graders to learn in the classroom, it doesn't hurt for them to have a little fun sometimes. It is important for teachers to come up with fun games for fifth graders to play to keep their interest. These games can be both entertaining and intellectually stimulating.

Computer Games

Fifth graders can have a lot of fun playing games on the computer while still learning a thing or two. An example of a great computer game is Keyboard Challenge. A keyboard has fallen apart and it is up to the students to put it back together by clicking and dragging keys back to their correct places. Another computer game they can play is Math Match, where they can practice their addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. This game has three levels of difficulty.

Word Search

Word searches are easy to make and can be a lot of fun for your students. First, create a word bank. The word bank can be related to any topic you choose. Then, the students must find the words that are hidden in the puzzle. Have a contest to see which student can complete the word search first.

Scavenger Hunt

Have your fifth graders look for items around the classroom related to a certain topic. For example, you could have them look for items that relate to spring. Hand each student a list of the items they should look for and give them a certain amount of time to complete the task. Give the student who has found the most items a prize, such as a candy bar.

Heads Up Seven Up

This is a fun and simple game that has been played in the classroom for years. Seven kids are selected and must come to the front of the classroom. The teacher then tells everyone else to put their heads down on their desks and to extend their thumbs. The seven selected kids go around the room and press down one thumb each. Then, the teacher yells, "Heads up, seven up!" All the kids raise their heads and the kids who have their thumbs pressed down stand up. Then the students guess which students pressed down their thumbs. If they are correct, they go to the front of class and take the places of the students who pressed down their thumbs. The game starts all over.
