Carnivallike Games For Children

Use ping-pong balls to play carnival-like games.

Most children love playing the games at a carnival. If you are planning a carnival-themed party for your child's birthday or a carnival for any organization, you can create a few carnival-like games for the children to play. Hang several sheets from clotheslines to make the game booths and hand out small prizes to all game winners.

Games with Sand

Create a few carnival-like games using sand and a plastic swimming pool. For younger children, fill a plastic swimming pool with sand and small plastic prizes. Give each child a shovel and let him dig for a prize. For older children, you can have a race to see who can find the most prizes in 30 seconds. The winner earns a medium-to-large-size plush animal.

Games with Ping-Pong Balls

Place several small plastic cups on a table. Mark a standing line and give each player five ping-pong balls to try to toss into the cups. Award a prize to each player who lands a ball into a cup. Another idea for ping-pong balls is a bucket toss. Line several buckets up and have the players try to toss the balls into the buckets.

Games with Beanbags

Draw or print a picture of a lion on a poster board and tape it to the bottom of a cardboard box. Cut the mouth out of the lion and prop the box against a wall. Have players try to toss beanbags into the lion's mouth. For another beanbag game, try tic-tac-toe. Make a tic-tac-toe grid on the ground with rope or tape and have two players see who can toss a tic-tac-toe on the grid first using beanbags.

Games with Flying Discs

Mark a standing line and see who can throw a flying disc the farthest. Have three to five players compete at a time and award a prize to the player who throws the flying disc the farthest distance. Another idea is to cut holes in a piece of plywood large enough for the discs. Players must try to toss the flying discs through the holes in the plywood to earn a prize.

Games with Candy

Inflate several dark-colored balloons and put two or three pieces of candy in each balloon. Children can select one balloon to pop and keep the candy inside. Promptly pick up any pieces of balloon, as they are a choking hazard for young children. For another game with candy, spread pieces of candy on a large sheet on the ground. Mark a line and have children stand at the line to try to toss rings on the candy. Any pieces of candy they ring are theirs to keep.
