Paper flowers are festive wall decorations.
Decorating with flowers can be subdued and classical or wild and reminiscent of the '60s. With folded cut flowers, you can achieve any look that you want, depending on the paper that you use to create the flowers. Multihued wrapping paper can create a festive look for parties. Instructions
1. Fold a square of paper in half with the right sides together. Measure the short edge of the paper and divide the results by three. If your original sheet was 12 inches wide, the short edge would be 6 inches wide, and one third of that would be 2 inches.
2. Measure in from a long edge by the distance determined in Step 1 making a light mark with a pencil at the top and the bottom of the paper. Draw a line from the top to the bottom of the paper using the two light marks as a guide. Repeat on the other side of your folded square. You now have a square folded in half with two lines going lengthwise on the paper. These lines are your folding guide.
3. Fan-fold the paper along the lightly marked lines.
4. Place a staple in the center of the fan-folded paper. Repeat with a second sheet of paper so that you have two identical stapled sheets of paper.
5. Cut from one corner on the open side of the fan down to the folded side with the scissors to create a petal shape. Cut a curve for a curved petal. Use the first corner cut as a template to cut the other three corners, always from the side with the raw edges into the side with only folds.
6. Your folded sheets of paper now have an open and a closed side. The closed side has only folds and the open side has the edges of the paper, as well as some folds. Stack both folded sheets of paper with the closed, folded edges on the right side, and tie a ribbon around the middle.
7. Spread open the petals of the fans until it forms a complete circle. Tape the two fans together where they meet at the top and the bottom.
8. Tape the ribbon to the wall to hang the flowers.
