Use beach balls to play many summer games.
Throwing a beach-themed party for teens can be a great way to beat the heat and have some summer fun. There are myriad games to play, such as limbo, a luau dance-off, water-balloon toss, beach dodgeball and fruit face.
Limbo
Have one person hold one end of a limbo stick or bamboo pole while another person holds the other end. Turn on luau or beach-themed music and have each party-goer walk under the stick without bending over, falling or touching the ground with their hands. Start out with the stick high enough for everyone to easily get under it. Once everyone has had a turn going under it, lower the stick a few inches. Continue lowering the stick until there is only one person left who can go under it.
Luau Dance-Off
Play some beach or luau music and get everyone on the floor for a hula-style dance-off. Have everyone start hula dancing, and one by one the designated judge or judges will tap people on the shoulder. If a dancer gets tapped, he must immediately leave the floor. The last person left dancing wins. You can also play this game with couples.
Water-Balloon Toss
Fill colorful balloons with water. Separate party-goers into teams of two. Have the partners line up across from each other starting out 5 feet apart. The team partners will then toss a balloon back and forth. After each successful catch, the players back up an inch or two and try to catch the balloon again. If the balloon falls or breaks, that team is out of the game. The team left with a balloon intact at the end of the game wins.
Beach Dodgeball
Divide the party-goers into two groups and place them on different sides of the court. Instead of using a dodgeball, the party-goers use a beach ball. Once a starting team has been determined, the person with the ball throws it at the other team. If a person is hit by the ball, she is out of the game. However, if a player catches the ball, the person who threw the ball is eliminated. Once all players are eliminated from one of the teams, the game is over.
Fruit Face
Step up a craft table with beads, craft paint, glue, ribbons, etc. Give each party-goer a coconut that has been scraped smooth. Set a timer and have everyone add eyes, nose and mouth to the coconut. The first person to decorate his coconut and beat the timer wins.
