Alcohol Punch Drinks

Alcoholic punch drinks can be created with a variety of liquor and mixes.

There are numerous varieties of alcoholic punch drinks because of the wide selection of alcohol and mixes that can be used to create recipes. Popular liquor choices for punch include vodka, rum and wine, and they can be combined with a variety of mixes including juice, soda, ice cream and fruit to create refreshing and sweet punch drinks. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Vodka Punch

Cranberry juice is a popular ingredient in vodka punch.

Vodka is a popular choice for alcoholic punch recipes and can be combined with soda, juice, tonic water, ice cream or a combination of one or more of these items. Lemon-lime sodas like Sprite or 7UP go well with vodka. Ginger ale is also a nice addition to vodka punch. Popular vodka punch juice flavors include cranberry, pineapple and orange juice.

Another way to add flavor to vodka punch is to use flavored vodka. Smirnoff vodka makes blueberry, raspberry, strawberry, vanilla, watermelon, black cherry, citrus, cranberry and green apple flavored vodka that can be found in most liquor stores.

Rum Punch

A sugar syrup is often added to rum punch.

Rum is another type of alcohol that mixes well with other ingredients to make punch drinks. Unlike vodka punch recipes that typically include simply mixing the vodka with juice or soda, rum punch recipes often include boiling sugar and water to create a syrup that is later added to the punch. Rum is not often combined with soda; therefore, the syrup is added to bring sweetness to the punch recipe. Citrus fruits like pineapple, lime and orange are often added to rum punch recipes, but berries like raspberries can also be pureed and included.

Wine Punch

Both red and white wines can be used to make alcoholic punch.

Both red and white wines can be used to create an alcoholic punch; however, the wine is usually combined with at least one additional type of alcohol. Vodka and gin can both be combined with wine to make an alcoholic punch. Like vodka punch, wine punch is best when combined with lemon-lime sodas and/or citrus fruits. If you would prefer to make wine punch without the addition of another type of alcohol, use a sweeter wine like a blush or a reisling.
