Women's ministry groups can get together for all kinds of activities after kids return to school.
When kids go back to school in the fall, mothers may find themselves with some free time they can use to share time with women from church. The women's ministry group may increase activities during the school day or one night a week to take advantage of the extra time. The activities may vary according to the interest and availability of the ladies in the group.
Women's Prayer Group
The women may meet together one day a week to pray for the students, teachers and administrators in area schools. They may create a focus board with pictures of students and school personnel from the church or who are friends with group members. The group may meet in the morning after students are dropped off at school.
Service Group
Those women who don't have daytime jobs or very young children may meet together to engage in service projects. They might read to residents at local assisted living centers or create baby blankets and booties for an area pregnancy center. They might help clean the church or help prepare the church bulletins and mailings each week.
The women might meet together several days a week and cook meals for area soup kitchens or senior's meal programs. They might also adopt some local shut-ins and help with simple cleaning tasks and running errands. They might carry recordings of church services and programs if the church has equipment to record the services.
The women might provide meals to members who recently suffered a loss, have a new baby or have some health challenges that make preparing meals difficult. Several of the women might go together to deliver the meals and pray with the recipients.
School Volunteers
The ladies' ministry group could sponsor a local school. The women can read to students and assist teachers in classrooms. They might help load food backpacks each Friday with food for students on the free lunch program to take home for weekend meals. The ladies might also mentor a group of at-risk girls each week and help them with homework or class work as needed.
Bible or Book Study
The ladies in the women's ministry program might get together each week or a couple of times each month to study the Bible or engage in a book study. The women might take turns leading the group or a single person may lead the studies.
The ladies might also share their prayer needs with the members in the book study. They could agree to pray for each other between meetings so that every woman in the group feels supported and cared for. They might also reach out to new families in the church and invite the women to join the group as a way to make new friends.
Ladies' Exercise Group
Now that school-aged children have returned to school, the women might get together for an exercise and healthy lifestyle class. The group might share a noon meal after exercise and visit a bit before breaking up to pick the kids up after school.
