About Divorce Parties

About Divorce Parties

For many people in America, getting a divorce is painful, stressful and not a situation they thought they would ever have to face. However, in our ever-changing society, the popularity of divorce parties has risen, especially among women. Rather then sitting home and sulking over love lost and the end of marriages, people are celebrating their newfound freedom. Read on to find out more about divorce parties.

Why People Have Divorce Parties

A divorce party is much like a bachelorette party, but rather than celebrating the beginning of a marriage, many women are celebrating the end of theirs. The purpose of a divorce party is to get women excited about their independence again--a second chance at happiness and a better life. This a way to cheer up those who are down about their divorces or the course that their marriages took. If the divorce was particularly stressful due to the division of assets or child custody issues, divorce parties are also a way to let go of some of those feelings--at least for a moment.

When to Throw a Divorce Party

After the divorce is final, all documents have been signed and a settlement has been reached between the former husband and wife is the best time to throw a divorce party. Rather than have a divorce party in the midst of strenuous divorce proceedings, partying after it is official is a better idea. It is also a good time to party away some of the stress you've dealt with during your divorce proceedings.

Who to Invite to a Divorce Party

Ladies should invite women in their lives who have been supportive of them throughout their divorce proceedings and issues during their relationships. These should be very good friends that the divorcee trusts, as well as women who are friends who have been through divorces as well. Friends who are divorcees may also be able to offer some insight on moving on after a divorce.

Types: Celebrating a Divorce

Divorce parties have no limitations, but a couple of popular ways to celebrate include hitting the town with girlfriends or partying in the divorcee's home with plenty of martinis. Heading out to a popular nightclub or bar with friends, complete with bachelorette accessories like tiaras, is a great way to celebrate. Taking a trip to a hot spot party destination like Las Vegas, Cabo or Jamaica is also a good idea for a divorce party.

Misconceptions

Throwing a divorce party is not a cure-all for divorce woes. While the party will be fun during the time that it occurs, divorcees will still have to go on with their lives afterward, with a fresh divorce in their midst. Divorcees should ask friends for support at the party and plan weekly outings with the girls to settle into their new lives as single women.
