About Lingerie Bridal Showers

Bridal showers come in many different themes. One of these themes is to throw the bride a lingerie bridal shower. A lingerie party involves more romantic gifts than the usual bridal shower. These parties are a great way to give personal gifts that are just for the bride herself or to share with her soon to be husband.

History

The legend of the bridal shower is that it began in Holland with a young couple who did not have a dowry. Instead of a dowry, they were given gifts from the people of the town. The tradition of the bridal shower becoming an all female event may have come from a party in which one of the women opened an umbrella full of gifts over the head of the bride to be. The umbrella and the gifts falling on her head may have been where the term shower came from. Since then, bridal showers now have many themes one of which is a lingerie bridal shower.

Function

Giving lingerie bridal showers are often a way to set the bride up for her honeymoon and to purchase items that a new bride may want but would not go out and buy. Many brides already have the household items often given at bridal showers. This party is a way to celebrate the bride without giving her appliances that she already owns. It is also a way for her girlfriends to celebrate with her alone and without her family.

Types

Sexy lingerie does not have to be the only type of lingerie bridal shower that you can throw. Some brides may find very sexy lingerie insulting. If this is the case, have a lingerie party giving nightgowns, pajamas or a simple nightie. Other possibilities include lingerie that is not see-through or features a great deal of buckles, straps and lace.

Features

The maid, or matron, of honor is often the hostess of the lingerie bridal shower. She invites the girlfriends of the bride and any family that would enjoy the party. Each of the guests brings a gift for the bride that she thinks the bride, and her husband, would enjoy. Sometimes held in a friend's home, lingerie parties often are enjoyed at restaurants and bars. Holding the bachelorette party directly after the lingerie bridal shower is also common.

Considerations

Lingerie bridal showers are not for everyone. Check with the bride before you throw her a lingerie party to make sure that she finds it appropriate, and ask who she suggests inviting and not inviting. The invitation should explain what the shower would entail and give examples of the type of gifts expected. Lingerie is not the only acceptable gift for these events. Bath and beauty products are good additions to the usual lingerie party gifts, as are casual sleepwear and bath robes.
