16th Birthday Cake Ideas

The 16th birthday is a big milestone in the life a teenager. Most 16-year-olds can acquire a driver's licence or a learner's permit, which can add a little freedom to a teen's life. Traditionally, the 16th birthday is known as the Sweet 16. Many teens want to celebrate with friends and family with a party based on their interests. Does this Spark an idea?

Cars

Since most states allow 16-year-olds to drive or at least get a learner's permit, this can be a major part of turning 16. Choose a favorite car and either make a car-shaped cake or purchase a model to put on top of a cake decorated with a road. Another idea is to make a large rectangular cake and decorate it to match your state's driver's license. Ask the local bakery to print an edible copy of a recent picture to add to the license.

Technology

Many teens are interested in the latest technology, such as cell phones and music players. Make a cake to look like large replicas of these items. For another idea, use chocolate molds of these same items to place on top of the cake or cupcakes. Most craft stores sell candy melts for molding chocolates.

Sweet 16

Update and personalize the traditional Sweet 16 theme. Buy fun-size pieces of the guest's favorite candy and unwrap 16 pieces. Buy 16 small candles. Attach the candles to the pieces by lighting one candle and dripping a few wax drops onto one candy bar. While the wax is still wet, attach the candle to the piece of candy and repeat for all 16 candles. Use the candy pieces as a cake topper.
