2-Year-Old Birthday Party Ideas
Birthday parties are fun for children of any age. Parents may have a difficult time trying to decide on a what to do for a young child's party. There are a variety of themes to choose from when throwing a birthday party for a 2-year-old. Does this Spark an idea?
Animals
To make animal party invitation for a 2-year-old's party, glue animal cutouts to a piece of cardstock and attach party information. A local craft store will have supplies that can be used for the invitations. Use animal posters and pictures that are cut out of magazines or printed off the computer for decorations.
For food, serve kids animal crackers, banana pieces called Monkey Bites and cheese pieces that are referred to as Cheetah's Cheese. Serve a lion-shaped cake for dessert. To make this cake, simply purchase a cake mold in the shape of the lion. Prepare cake batter and bake in the mold according to package instructions. Decorate with yellow icing and add candy pieces of your choosing to represent the eyes, nose and whiskers.
Play animal games such as Pin the Tail on the Donkey. Give out animal toys as favors.
Music
Use music CDs as invitations for a music-themed party. Write party information on the case or include it on a note inside the case. Use music notes cut out of black construction paper as decorations.
Sing songs that are easy for 2-year-olds to recite like "The Wheel's On The Bus" or "The Itsy Bitsy Spider." Play the game Freeze Dance by turning on music and having the children dance when they hear the music. When the music stops, they must freeze.
Have children make party favor shakers at the party to take home. Each child should paint a soda bottle that has been rinsed out. Then children put dry rice or beans in their bottle after the paint is dry. Before the children practice shaking their bottles, the lids should be taped on.
Serve sandwiches cut into the shape of musical instruments and cupcakes decorated with music notes.
Bugs
Make bug invitations by gluing a plastic bug to a plain white card, writing party information on the card and putting a few extra bugs in the mailing envelope. Use bug balloons, posters and plastic bugs as decorations.
Have kids go on a bug hunt and sing songs such as "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" and "Shoo Fly."
For food, have kids make Ants On A Log. This is made by spreading peanut butter on a piece of celery. Then raisins are placed on the top to represent ants. Instead of a traditional birthday cake, serve kids dirt cups. These are made by placing pudding, crushed up chocolate cookies and gummy candy bugs in a cup.
Use stuffed bug toys and bug stickers as party favors.
