Chair covers can cover up horrible looking chairs of all kinds. Metal folding chairs detract from the decorations of the wedding or party. Transform those ugly metal chairs by adding a chair cover. Next time you have a big event planned and want to save money on renting chairs, follow some of these suggestions and cover the chairs yourself.
Cover the Whole Chair
Count up the number of chairs you have at the party or reception. Multiply that number by the yardage of fabric needed for each chair. Purchase the fabric. You need approximately 1½ yards per chair.
Wash and iron the fabric. Cut the fabric into 1½ yard segments. Lay the fabric on a flat surface. Turn under the edges and sew a hem all the way around. Iron the hem seam.
Drape the fabric over the chair. Gather up the fabric at the back of the chair. Use a needle and thread to hold the gather bunch in place.
Make a bow out of ribbon. Use ribbon that is at least 3 inches wide. Sew the ribbon to the gathered bunch at the back of the chair for a decorative look.
Dress Up the Chairs
You do not have to cover the entire chair. If the chairs look decent and you just want to dress them up a little bit, buy some tulle and use it to tie a bow on just the top part of the chair. Add ribbons or flowers to dress it up a little bit more.
Add just a simple slip of fabric over the top and down the back of the chair. This method is good if the seats of the chairs are padded and not damaged or rusted at all.
Coordinate the Chairs
If the chairs you are using look nice, but you just want them to coordinate with the decorations more, simply add fabric bows. You can add small bows to either side of the chair or you can attach a larger bow to the back of the chair. You can also use flowers. Use real-looking artificial flowers to attach to the chairs so you do not have to worry about wilting.
Monograms
Print out a silhouette and a monogram to hang on the back of the chairs for something different. This is a good idea for small rooms where big bows on the backs of the chairs would only get in the way of people walking.
