Use a Real Flip Flop
Purchase inexpensive flip flops in bright colors from a discount store. Get enough pairs to send one individual flop to each invitee. Use gold or silver metallic paint pens to write your invitations directly onto the flip flops. On the front of the flip flop write something like "Flip flop on over..." or "It's Julie's birthday!" On the back of the flip flop write party information including, date, time and place.
Construction Paper
Cut out flip flop or sunglass shapes from construction paper. Use a real flip flop or print out clip art to use as a guide. Decorate the cut-outs with artificial flowers, stickers or other craft supplies. Write your invitation message on the construction paper flip flop or pair of sunglasses. Be sure to include the name of the birthday person and the date, time and place of the party.
Use Real Sunglasses
Purchase inexpensive, brightly colored sunglasses at a discount store. Using a metallic paint marker, write "You're" on the left lens and "Invited" on the right lens. You can also write another phrase like "Let's Celebrate" or "Join Us." Attach a large construction paper tag to the glasses with string or ribbon. Write party details -- such as time, date and place -- on the tag. Alternatively, print out the party details using word processing software and glue the print out to the tag.

Find a fun picture of the guest of honor wearing sunglasses, flip flops or both. Use an online photo service to print your invitations. On such a service, you may be able to find an appropriate template for your party. If you prefer, print your own photo cards at home.
