Party Time
Once kids reach a certain age, it becomes more difficult to throw a birthday party. There are no more Dora the Explorer, Batman, or Elmo-themed parties. But just because your son or daughter is a teen doesn't mean it has to be a challenge to throw a party. Before you make any plans, check with your teen to see what he or she wants to do. Does this Spark an idea?
Outdoor Party Ideas
If you're planning a party for your teen in the summer, a pool party is usually a hit. You can give it a Hawaiian theme by setting up some fake palm trees and tiki torches around the yard. You can also make coconut drinks in coconut shells and smoothies with little umbrellas. Another idea is to create an outdoor movie screen and show movies outside with a barbecue. In fact, you could probably combine the outdoor movie and the Hawaiian-themed pool party.
Another outdoor party idea is a paintball party, if you don't mind the mess. Have everyone wear old clothes. You can fill balloons with nontoxic paint and divide everyone into two groups for a war game.
Indoor Party Ideas
There are several party ideas for those who want to have an indoor party. You could have a Vegas-themed party, with your garage or living room set up like a casino with different tables all around the room. You can go to your local party store and buy various casino-themed decorations, such as lights, streamers, tablecloths, signs and party favors with cards and dice.
Another good idea for indoors is a glow-in-the-dark party. Buy a mini strobe light and all sorts of glow bracelets and necklaces, and decorate the room with glow-in-the-dark stickers. You can buy cups that light up, and have black and green streamers and balloons hanging in the room. Have music playing and set up a disco ball for added effect.
Separate Location Party Ideas
If you don't want to bother with the mess and hassle of a birthday party at home, consider throwing the party somewhere else. The bowling alley is an excellent place to have a party, particularly during cosmic bowling nights. Everything glows, and lights are projected with music. If you're not into bowling, you can take the guests to a go-cart track and have hours of fun racing. For girls, a day at the spa would be a nice, relaxing way to spend a birthday with friends. For boys, taking all his friends to a ball game could make for an enjoyable celebration.
