Centerpiece Ideas For A Graduation Party Table

Centerpiece Ideas for a Graduation Party Table

Whether your loved one has graduated from kindergarten, medical school or any educational institution in between, add a sentimental touch to the celebratory dinner or luncheon with a custom centerpiece that salutes the guest of honor. Use nostalgic and colorful touches to allow the arrangement to commemorate the milestone and serve as a conversation starter at the table. Does this Spark an idea?

Photo Time Line

Gather a collection of framed photos to become a time line of the graduate's birth to the present. Use an assortment of picture frames to hold images that range in size from 3-by-5 inches to 8-by-10 inches and include formal portraits, candid snapshots and pictures from the graduation ceremony itself if you have time to develop digital shots on a home photo printer.

If you're celebrating a graduate school commencement, for example, use old pictures of the graduate in a cap and gown to show the progression from kindergarten graduation to high school to college to the present. When creating a centerpiece to honor a kindergarten graduation, use pictures that span the years from birth to age 5, including milestones such as his first steps, first day of school and first "report card."

Cluster the frames in the center of the table and tie balloons in school colors to the stands on the back of the frames or scatter confetti around the images in the photo centerpiece.

Celebrate Tomorrow

Design a graduation arrangement featuring items that represent the next step in the graduate's life journey. If the graduate has just left high school and is heading to college, place low stacks of college textbooks-sold at used bookstores-on the table that pertain to her intended major. Arrange items such as a stuffed animal of the school's mascot, a pom pom in college colors and a rolled, faux diploma atop the books.

If the graduate is embarking on a career, gather items that represent the profession. For example, fill a small, red toy wagon with alphabet books, an apple, a lanyard and whistle and a cluster of yellow pencils, red pens and chalk tied with a bow if the guest of honor is becoming a teacher.

School Spirit

Celebrate the school that your friend or family member is graduating from with a floral centerpiece in school colors. Place floral foam that you've soaked in water in the center of a long, rectangular basket lined with plastic cling wrap. Arrange and insert assorted blooms and greenery like baby's breath or bear grass in school colors in the foam-florists will be able to accommodate requests for flower colors like blue and green, for example.

Have each guest write a congratulatory message to the graduate on a 2-by-3-inch piece of card stock. Place the card stock pieces on plastic floral sticks-used to hold messages with bouquets-and insert them among the flowers in the arrangement.
