A graduation party is an important right of passage into the adult world.
Graduation is a right of passage, as is a party honoring the graduate. You may want to put a special spin on the party for your graduating son or daughter, and creating party favors yourself is a way to accomplish this. Make nice favors using items that you have on hand or items found at the local craft store. Does this Spark an idea?
Candy
Candy is an edible favor that can be used as a snack before the party really gets started. These snacks favors are easy to create, and usually do not take long. Small jars with covers can be found at dollar or craft stores, washed and filled with small mints or other types of candies. A sticker is created using a computer program, printed and placed on the jar or the cover. The sticker has the student's name and graduation date on it, as well as a graduation symbol such as a cap. A black or gold ribbon is then tied around the neck of the bottle. Lollipops can be made using milk or white chocolate, lollipop sticks and candy molds in the shape of a graduation symbol like a bear with a cap or a star. These are wrapped in cellophane and then tied with ribbon of black and gold.
Cards and Magnets
Cards that give information about the student and the graduation date are also an interesting idea for use as a party favor. They are a memento for people to take home to keep. These cards can be made on the computer, using a photo and art program, and printed. Trading cards are one option. These are made much like sports cards, with a photograph of the student on the front of the card, and information such as graduation date, accomplishments or extracurricular activities, and school name located on the back. Place markers are another option, with the name of the guest on the front. These cards are folded in half. The top inside of the card is where a small photograph and the name and graduation date go. The lower inside is where other information is printed. Magnets are another favor that will make great take-home favors for guests. These are made much the same as the trading cards, but are laminated. Magnetic strips or dots are added to the back.
Candles and Holders
Candles in holders are another take-home favor for guests that many people enjoy using in their daily lives. Votive candles can be purchased cheaply at a dollar store. Votive holders can be purchased in bulk from places such as Oriental Trading. Gold star stickers, the ones that are often used for chore charts, are placed on the outside of each holder, as is a sticker that is created, using a computer, with the student's name and graduation date.
