Birthday Party Ideas For A Preteen Mixed Group

Plan a birthday party that will be fun for both female and male preteens.

Planning a birthday party for a preteen takes some creativity, as this is the age where children usually begin requesting that both sexes are invited. Choosing a theme that is appropriate for both male and female guests is essential, as you want to make sure that every guest has fun and that the birthday child is satisfied. There are three themes that girls and boys are sure to both enjoy. Does this Spark an idea?

Cosmic Bowling

Many bowling alleys offer cosmic bowling at night. This is when the entire alley is illuminated with black lights and glow-in-the-dark decorations. Book a private party room and prepay for each guests' shoes and games. Allow the kids to engage in some friendly competition before eating pizza or hot dogs for dinner. If you book an all-inclusive party package through the alley, this will usually cover the entire cost of shoes, games, food and drink. As party favors, hand out glow-in-the-dark necklaces and bracelets to reflect the cosmic bowling theme.

Karaoke Party

Throwing a karaoke party for a mixed group of preteens is easy. Rent a karaoke machine and set up a large foam board mat as a stage. Decorate the room with an inexpensive light machine and some streamers and let the children take turns performing their favorite songs. To add some competition to the party, select a few guests to serve as a panel of judges and have them rate each singer's performance. Award a small prize to the boy or girl with the highest score at the end. Order pizza or set up a taco-and-burrito buffet for the kids to eat before digging into some cake and ice cream.

Luau Party

Transform your backyard into a Hawaiian luau with some inflatable palm trees and simple luau-themed decorations. Hand out grass skirts and leis to each guest upon arrival and let the children dance, socialize and have fun. If you own a swimming pool, open it up for the kids to swim. If you do not have a swimming pool, consider buying an inexpensive slip-and-slide for the kids to use. For dinner, cook up some Hawaiian-style barbecue or kabobs alongside fruit salad.
