Caribbean Theme Parties

Serve island-inspired drinks at a Caribbean theme party.

Plan an exotic Caribbean theme party, complete with island-inspired food, drinks, decorations and entertainment. Select a specific theme for the party, such as a classic tropical Caribbean evening, held poolside with music and food, or an exciting "Pirates of the Caribbean" adventure party, full of pirates and treasure hunts. Does this Spark an idea?

Location

Decide on a location for the Caribbean theme party. Choose a tropical location to best fit the theme, such as at the beach or a local lake, or rent out the patio of an waterfront restaurant. Other options include holding the gathering in your own or a friend's backyard, preferably with a swimming pool or large deck for entertaining.

Guest List and Invitations

Make a guest list for the Caribbean party and select invitations based on the tropical theme chosen. For an exotic Caribbean party, select invitations with tropical designs, such as palm trees and beach scenes or make your own invitations that resemble plane tickets so guests feel like they are going on an relaxing island getaway. Make invitations that look like pirate treasure maps for a "Pirates of the Caribbean" party and roll them up in clear glass bottles before handing them to each guest. Instruct guests to dress in tropical island or pirate attire, depending on the theme and award a small prize for best-dressed. Mail out invitations a few weeks before the party date with all relevant party details and instructions to RSVP.

Decorations

Decorate the party location with tropical decor and embellishments for a Caribbean event. Place tiki torches and potted palm trees around the party area and string small white lights around trees and railings to create soft lighting. Lay fishing nets across tables instead of a traditional tablecloth. Make centerpieces with shells and palm fronds for a tropical event or small pirate treasure chests full of gold coins for a pirate theme party.

Food and Drinks

Serve tropical food and drink at the Caribbean theme party. Set up a buffet table and fill it with platters of seafood, such as crab cakes, coconut shrimp and lobster bites, as well as chicken and beef kabobs seasoned with spicy Jamaican jerk sauce. Transport guests to an island state-of-mind with pina coladas, daiquiris and other mixed cocktails.

Entertainment

Hire a reggae band, if budget permits, or play a CD of tropical music to entertain guests at the Caribbean party. Get a professional fire breather to mingle throughout the party and put on a full demonstration show near the end of the night. Get guests moving by leading everyone in Latin-inspired Caribbean dances, such as the cha cha, rumba or a rousing game of limbo. Send guests on a mini-treasure hunt at a "Pirates of the Caribbean" party by handing out maps with clues that take guests around the surrounding area and ends at a treasure chest full of chocolate coins and a small prize, such as a gift card.
