Christening Invitation Ideas

Choose an elegant, scrolling font or a childlike, playful one for your baby's special day.

If you're planning a christening, Pregnancy.org offers some helpful etiquette tips. Get invitations out about a month before the christening. It's OK to invite only close family and friends for this event. If you're sending the invitations to out-of-town guests, include information on local accommodations and driving directions (if applicable). Also, choose an invitation that best reflects the type of christening you're giving.

Photo Invitations

Place a photo of your soon-to-be-christened babe in the top-center of some pale-colored card stock. These invitations look thoughtful with an appropriate Bible verse printed in one corner. If you get your baby's christening outfit early, you can dress her up in that for the photo. That way, guests also have a memorable picture of your little one. Celebration information can be printed on the back of the photo or underneath it (which uses less paper).

Satin Bow Invitations

A simple sheet of card stock with a satin bow affixed to it is all you need for an elegant christening invitation. Ribbons can be placed at the top of the page or towards the bottom. Card stock invitations with a cross at the top are typically available at invitation supply stores, or you can special order your invitation. A curvy, scrolling font is appropriate, or you may choose a playful, "hand-written" font that looks childlike. You can create a border and reinforce your invitations by placing the card stock on a slightly larger piece in a contrasting or matching color.

Miniature Invitations

Make your christening invitations meaningful, simple and tiny, just like your little one. Invitations can be just big enough to fit all the pertinent information on them. You can use a business card-sized invitation or a 3-inch by 5-inch one, depending on your preference. Instead of placing images on the invitation, you can place a tiny cross, angel or other image relevant to your faith on the outside of the envelope. Cut invitations out in the shape of a cross or angel or keep them square.

What's In a Name Invitation

Create an especially meaningful invitation that focuses on the name you'll be bestowing on your baby. Find the name's meaning in a name book or online database. Include it in the invitation and ask guests to celebrate these qualities in your little one. If the name is biblical or religious, you can include a pertinent biblical verse or story.
