Cool 16th Birthday Ideas

16th birthday parties are a time for building memories and having fun.

Turning sixteen is a memorable experience for boys and girls. This is the age of obtaining a driver's license and acquiring more personal freedom. This time in a teenager's life is exciting and is traditionally celebrated with a birthday party. Boys and girls alike will enjoy these celebrations with friends and family. These parties can be modified to fit any teenager's personality. They can also be adjusted for more or less participants. Does this Spark an idea?

Luau

A luau is a good time for boys and girls. Start by sending out interesting invitations. Send Hawaiian post cards or even a message in a bottle. Decorate the party room with fish nets on the ceiling complete with fake fish and sea shells attached. Blow up beach balls and have them lying around everywhere. Table decorations for a luau include shells, dishes of sand, beach Barbie or Ken dolls or leis. Use pinks and oranges for a girl's party and blues and greens for a boy's party. Provide grass skirts and leis for the guests to wear. Have luau music playing in the background. Offer non-alcoholic tropical drinks like pina coladas.

Scavenger Hunt

A scavenger hunt is a fun idea for a teenager who is hands on. Create a list of unusual items that will be silly for the kids to find. These can be things like a cup of ice, arcade token, 5 paper towels, road map, pizza box or a coffee cup. Make the items easy to find and get at local businesses without having to spend money. This can be really funny since the teenagers have to explain what they are doing in order to get the items. Divide the kids into teams and give them each a list and a bag to collect items. Assign an adult or older sibling to each team as a driver. Tell the kids that the first team back to the house with all the items wins a prize. Follow up the scavenger hunt with cake and gifts.

Dinner Party

Some teenagers aren't into having a big themed birthday party. Having a dinner party is an appropriate option for these kids. Choose a restaurant that is family friendly and doesn't mind a bit of noise. Invite the guests with fancy invitations and request they dress nice. Decorate the tables with fresh flowers or even plastic cars and plastic car keys. The car theme is especially great when the gift is a car. Give the guests choices for entrees to keep the costs down. Finish off with gifts and dessert.
