Honolulu hosts military-friendly hotels.
Military members and federal employees earn vacation time during their service. Some choose to go to Hawaii. Although Hawaii can be an expensive vacation for anyone, some accommodations cater to members of the military by offering special packages, low-cost rooms and military-friendly amenities. These include the military-sponsored Hale Koa Hotel and the Castle Resorts chain.
Hale Koa Hotel
The Hale Koa Hotel is considered a rest and recreation destination for all military ranks. Prices are kept comparatively low because it's financed by military personnel through the Armed Services Recreation Center program. Rates through October 2011 are listed from $91 for the standard room to as low as $169 for the Deluxe Ocean Front. When the Hale Koa reaches 100 percent occupancy, active-duty military members have priority on the waiting list. Military-friendly amenities include a full health club called the Point and a Post Exchange in the lobby.

Ka'anapali Beach Hotel
Ka'anapali Beach Hotel considers itself Hawaii's most Hawaiian hotel. That was certified by the Waiaha Foundation, which evaluates hotels on their commitment to preserving cultural status while serving tourists. The hotel is also military-friendly, as demonstrated by the "March to Maui" special valid through Dec. 22, 2010. Military members received dinner credits, hotel salon discounts, discounts for the Kupanaha Magic Show and no charge for third and fourth occupants. The military discount also included Department of Defense employees, reservists and dependents of military members.

Castle Resorts and Hotels
Castle Resorts operates dozens of hotels in the Asian Pacific region, including the Hawaiian Islands. It offers up to 45 percent discounts to military members. The Lotus at Diamond Head in Oahu, the Poipu Shores Resort in Kauai and the Pacific Marina Inn at Honolulu are examples of what Castle Resorts considers its military-friendly hotels.
Other properties such as the Kaha Lani in Kauai and the Hokele Suites in Waikiki have been part of past Castle Resorts Military Specials. Its 2010 military special offered single rooms for $99 a night for 99 days during the summer. The special included up to four people per room or suite, and amenities such as free continental breakfast for two.
