Bumblebee Cupcake Ideas

Garden parties, showers, birthdays or warm weather get-togethers call for decorative and delicious cupcakes for dessert. Make an assortment of flavored and filled cupcakes and decorate them in a variety of ways. Arrange them on a decorative tray and present to your guests. Select one type or make several different kinds of cupcakes for your bumblebee theme party. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Mini Bumblebees

Make an assortment of mini bumblebee cupcakes in vanilla, chocolate or lemon flavors. Use mini cupcake pans to create bite-sizedtreats and decorate them as individual bumblebees. Make a yellow fondant frosting to fully wrap the cupcakes and form the oval-shaped bodies. Add chocolate piping stripes around the body and two drops for eyes. Make thin, flat, teardrop shapes from white fondant and attach to the top of each body for the bumblebee's wings. Scatter the mini bumblebees around a tray of other desserts or use to decorate larger cupcakes for a layered treat.

Jumbo Beehives

Build a beehive on top of a jumbo cupcake and let a few decorative bumblebees perch on top. Fill large yellow cupcakes with an orange marmalade or lemon custard filling. Add yellow food coloring to a thick frosting and use a pastry bag to arrange large swirls of frosting around the top, building it up to resemble a beehive. Decorate the cupcake with a mini bumblebee cupcake or make marzipan bumblebees for decoration. Use as the centerpiece on a serving tray filled with regular-size or mini bumblebees.

Flower Gardens

Create a decorative garden of flowers and bumblebees. Make chocolate cupcakes in a full-size non-stick pan and wrap in laser cut cupcake wraps that resemble picket fences, available in craft, kitchen and confectionery stores and on the Internet. Add green food coloring to a thick, buttercream frosting and use a pastry bag to create a fluffy bed of grass on top of each cupcake. Add a decorative mini bumblebee cupcake, marzipan bumblebees or bumblebee picks made from bumblebee stickers on card stock attached to toothpicks. Add flower-shaped candies to the bed of grass on each cupcake and present each guest with a flower garden.

Frosted and Decorated

Make any flavor cupcakes, filled or plain, in a full-size baking pan, using yellow paper cupcake wrappers to bake. Add yellow food coloring to butter cream frosting and spread a smooth layer over the entire top of each cupcake, covering all of the cake. Place a yellow gumdrop on the top side for a head and poke in two mini chocolate chips for eyes. Poke two white chocolate candy melts into the top for wings. Cut black licorice strips into three sections to lie across the top of the frosting. Arrange the cupcakes on a tiered serving platter.
