Gifts For A Retirement Party

Purchase gifts for a retiree related to his hobby.

While some people may be sad about retirement, others have been looking forward to retiring for years. Either way, there are many different gifts that are appropriate for retirees. Identify what the person likes to do, or what he has always wanted to do, given the time.

Hobby-Related Gifts

Chances are the retiree has a hobby that she enjoys but has been unable to devote time to. Help her rediscover her hobby with a related gift. For example, give her scrapbooking materials, gardening gear, or a gift certificate for 18 holes at a local golf course.

Travel Gifts

Many retirees see their freedom from work as a great opportunity for travel. If you know the retiree's interests well, buy him a travel book about the region or country he plans to visit. Many retirees go on road trips, so a gas card would be a welcome gift. If you are not confined to a budget, purchase plane tickets for him and a guest.

Photo Album Gifts

If you have worked alongside the retiree throughout her career, compile a photo album of her at work over the years. Try to find some from her first years at the company, along with more recent photos. The album will be fun for the retiree to show family members and to look back on during retirement.

Gifts of Wine or Spirits

Some retirees may plan on unwinding during retirement, so reward their years of service with wine or spirits. For a fun twist on retirement, choose a beverage that benefits from years of aging. Choose a brandy, scotch, or wine that is perfectly aged.
