Halloween Ghost Games

Halloween Ghost Games

Halloween can be one of the most enjoyable holidays of the year, filled with colorful treats, creative costumes and imaginative decorations. It is also the perfect time to incorporate your favorite games filled with ghosts, fright and fun. Whether you want games for a small group or to include your entire neighborhood, you are sure to find one or many that suit your needs. Does this Spark an idea?

Neighborhood Boo

You've Been Boo'd is the perfect way to bring neighbors together for fun and giving. For this game you will need two candy bags or baskets, two copies of instructions and two printed pictures of a ghost. Fill the bags or baskets with candy, then choose two neighbors who will be the recipients. Being careful not to be noticed, place the goodies, ghost and instructions on their doorsteps, ring the bell and run for cover.

The neighbors will love the treats and the instructions will show them keep the game alive until everyone has been "boo'd." Each neighbor is to fill two baskets with candy and choose two more neighbors to "boo." They must include two copies of instructions and of the ghost, which is displayed prominently on the front door or in a front window so that everyone knows who has already been "boo'd." The instructions are just passed along each time with the basket. Everyone enjoys this game and it's always fun to figure out who gave the treat.

Ghost Bingo

Cut 5-by-7 bingo cards from orange poster board. Draw the grid and numbers using a black marker. Draw a ghost in the center for the free space. In large letters write "GHOST" across the top of the cards. Print numbers on white poker chips that will be placed in a Halloween basket and drawn for the game. Let participants use candy corn as markers. Players yell "Ghost!" when they have marked five spaces in a row vertically, horizontally or diagonally.

Who's That Ghost?

This game is perfect for elementary age children. Each person fills out a small questionnaire written on index cards. They list their favorite food, hobby, class, sport, season, musical group and middle name. Then, cover each student in a sheet with only the eyes cut out. Have the children sit in a circle and put one child--the "ghost"--in the middle of the circle.

One by one, have students ask the "ghost" a question from the list. Have an adult read the answers so the ghost isn't revealed by her voice. The first one to guess the name of the "ghost" wins a piece of candy. If none of the children can guess the identity of the "ghost," the player in the middle wins an entire basket of candy.
