Grand Opening Ideas For A Clothing Store

Use promotional models to bring people into a grand opening.

In many cities, clothing stores have a healthy amount of competition; the grand opening is an opportunity to introduce the business to the community and attract the attention of shoppers. As you plan a grand opening, consider how you can appeal to both the fashion sense and the wallets of local consumers.

Daily Promotions

Make your grand opening a week-long event by holding a different promotion every day. Choose a group of items, like boots or accessories, to promote and make a special deal that customers will be hard-pressed to resist. You might offer a two-for-one deal on earrings, for example, or offer a "buy one, get one half off" price on formal dresses. Customers who are interested in your products will come in on multiple days to get different deals. This broadens your appeal and increases the chance of sales.

VIP Sale

Create a sense of mystery and exclusivity about your clothing store by offering a special pre-opening VIP sale. Invite a select group of people to attend; ideal customers are those with influence in the community, for example. Or invite a random sample of people. Give them each a guest pass and send them a flyer or brochure with tantalizing details about the store and the special deals they will get as VIPs. Hold the VIP sale one or two nights before the grand opening to give them a preview of the clothing. Offer champagne and refreshments. Word will pass from attendees to their friends, building interest in the store.

Dress Promotional Models

Hire promotional models for your grand opening and dress them in outfits that typify the style of clothes at your store. Choose bold clothes that will attract attention. Have the models walk around handing out flyers, coupons or free snacks in the area around the store. You might also send them to places frequented by your target customer to hand out coupons.

Social Media Buzz

Social media can be a powerful and inexpensive way to build interest in your grand opening. Create profiles on Facebook and Twitter and send out teaser posts and photos about the clothing lines that will be available. Offer deals to randomly selected followers, or invite friends to a special reception at the grand opening. By putting your store name and stock in front of customers before the store actually opens, you can create curiosity that will motivate people to check it out.
