Great Ideas For A 'Barbie In The 12 Dancing Princesses' Party

Decorate with ballet slippers or give them as party favors

A party based on the movie "Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses" can be put together with a combination of Barbie-themed party products and items purchased from crafts and dance stores. Incorporate a dance theme along with creative games based on scenes or characters from the movie. Does this Spark an idea?

Invitations

Purchase pink card stock and ballet slipper scrapbook stickers or embellishments from the craft store. Cut and fold the card stock paper to the size of an invitation. Decorate the front with your ballet slipper decorations. Write on the inside, "Princess Genevieve invites you to join her for a Dancing Princess celebration. Please come dressed as your favorite dancing princess." Follow with the date, time and location of the party.

Decorations

Decorate with the colors of the dancing princesses' dresses. Mix items such as pastel tablecloths, cups and napkins with actual Barbie Dancing Princesses themed plates. Tie pastel satin bows to the backs of chairs. Create a pastel balloon bouquet centerpiece, tied together with satin ribbon and a pair of hanging ballet slippers.

Dance Activities

Hire a dance instructor to come to the party and give the girls a dance lesson or rent a dance studio where you can host the entire party.

Play "Dancing Tiles." Create colored square tiles from card stock and have guests decorate them with markers and stickers. Tape them to the floor. Play music and have the girls dance from tile to tile to open up a magical room just like in the movie. When the dance is complete, they have "unlocked" the magical room. If you have two rooms, have them perform this dance at the beginning of the party and then lead them into the party room. If only using one room, hang a drape over the decorated party table and remove the drape to reveal the beautiful table once the dance is complete.

Play "Dance Behind Rowena's Back." Have an adult play the role of Rowena for this party game. Play classical music and have Rowena turn her back while the princesses dance. Rowena will turn around at random intervals to try to catch the girls dancing. The girls will freeze when she turns to face them. Rowena then calls "out" anyone she catches dancing.

Cake

Build a princess cake using round cake pans, a dome shaped bowl and a Dancing Princess Barbie doll.

As an alternative to the princess cake, bake 12 cupcakes, more if more children are at the party, and frost them with the dancing princess colors. Mix food coloring with white frosting to create the desired colors.

Favors

Visit the craft store to find large, pastel-colored organza bags. Fill them with items such as hair clips, bows, stickers, makeup, bubbles and jewelry.

Give each girl a pair of ballet slippers or one of the 12 dancing princess Barbie dolls.
