Decorating Ideas For Camping Party

Decorations can help create the right look for your camping party.

Whether you are holding a camping party in the great outdoors or in your own backyard, decorations can help you create the right look. Backwoods signs can help direct your guests to the party and give your camp a fun name while lights and glow toys will keep the party going all night long. Does this Spark an idea?

Glow Toys

A camping party means being outside in the dark. Putting up too many lights can ruin the effect, but stumbling around blindly in total darkness makes it hard to socialize or keep track of the kids. Glow toys are a great compromise. Go to a dollar store and get a bunch of glow sticks, glow necklaces, glow earrings and glow-in-the-dark wands. Hand them out to guests and place them on landmarks to help people find their way around. You can even use glow sticks for games. Tie a glow stick or glow necklace to a ball for nighttime volleyball, hot potato or another glow-in-the-dark game.

Christmas Lights

If you are throwing a backyard camping party for your child, you'll have access to electricity. Use Christmas lights for a combination of decoration and safety. Invite the kids to help decorate the tents with LED (light emitting diode) Christmas lights (some incandescent bulbs may be too hot to safely place on a tent.) Then, string up lights in a big square or circle around the "campground." These lights will illuminate the area enough for the kids to find their way around and scare off any monsters your young campers might worry about. Wire all the lights through an extension cord to a ground fault circuit interrupter or GFCI (a special circuit breaker that prevents accidental electrocution) and you're ready for some camping!

Rustic Signs

Put up rustic signs to give your camping party an authentic, woodsy feel. Pick a name for your camp and put a sign welcoming your guests to it at the entrance. Put other outdoors signs such as "Gone Fishin'" and "Beware of Bigfoot" around the campsite. You can also label different areas such as the "mess hall" and fire pit. Print out the signs on paper with a fake wood grain design behind a font that looks carved on.
