Bulletin Board Ideas Using A Strawberry Theme

The strawberry can add color and spark to a bulletin board display.

Strawberries, with their bright red color and deep green leaves, lend themselves easily to displays that feature the tasty fruit. Bulletin boards with a strawberry theme can serve a variety of purposes, from interactive classroom displays to bold, seasonal decorations. Bulletin boards also provide an excellent opportunity to showcase student art that has a strawberry theme.

Classroom Displays

Bulletin boards add interest to an otherwise blank classroom wall.

A strawberry-themed bulletin board offers many options for classroom display. Create a bulletin board that introduces classmates at the beginning of the year with the theme "The Berry Best Class." Use construction paper to create a wicker basket image and fill the basket with strawberry-shaped cutouts. Write a different student's name on each berry. For extra interest, have a few berries spilling out of the basket. Another option is to cut a triangular section from a blue and white checked, vinyl tablecloth and staple this to the bulletin board before attaching the basket and berries. This will give the impression of a tabletop and add a pop of color to the display.

Highlight student achievement with a strawberry theme. Cut red poster board into 12-inch strawberry shapes. Attach an example of exemplary student work to each strawberry and arrange these on the board under a banner that reads "Pick of the Crop." Use a strawberry print fabric as the background and frame the board with strawberry seed packets stapled at an angle.

Student Art

Showcase student art with a strawberry theme.

Incorporate student artistic endeavors into a strawberry-themed bulletin board. Have each child make a hand print with green acrylic paint on a bulletin board covered with plain white paper. These hand prints represent tiny strawberry bushes. Once the paint is dry, have the children embellish the hand print "bush" with plenty of red berries created by touching index fingers to red ink pads and making fingerprints on each "bush." Frame the display with a red scalloped border.

Science

Highlight botanical science with a strawberry display.

Bulletin boards with a strawberry theme can introduce scientific facts in an eye-catching way. Cover a bulletin board with bright green fabric and add a banner across the top that reads "Fun Facts About Strawberries." Arrange an assortment of strawberry shapes in different sizes cut from red construction paper. Include an interesting fact about strawberries on each berry such as "Each strawberry has about 200 seeds" or "The strawberry plant is related to the rose."

Math

Bulletin boards can be attractive while providing educational opportunities.

Use strawberry themes to focus on simple math skills and add an interactive quality to the bulletin board. Create two simple strawberry cutouts using red and green poster board. Attach black construction paper circles to the berries with sticky tac (a gummy, removable adhesive) so the circles can be removed later. Arrange the strawberries on the board as if they are part of a simple math problem by substituting strawberries for numbers. A large question mark should follow this "fruity" equation. Tell students to solve the problem by counting the number of dots or "seeds" on the strawberries. Change the number of dots every few days to keep students interested.
