Hawaii's most popular destinations are Kauai, Oahu and Maui.
There are eight major islands in the state of Hawaii -- Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Hawaii (Big Island), Niihau and Kahoolawe. The state's capital, Honolulu, is on the island of Oahu. Vacations to Hawaii are popular throughout the year, but April is traditionally a drier month with warm temperatures. It also can be a good time of the year to find travel deals because it falls outside of the busiest season, which runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Kauai
Kauai is the northernmost Hawaiian Island and is characterized by emerald valleys, sharp mountain spires, jagged cliffs, tropical rainforest and pristine beaches. Known as the "Garden Island," Kaui offers lush scenery and vegetation, waterfalls, Waimea Canyon, the "hidden" valley of Kalalau, Wailua River, Napali Coast cliffs and Nawiliwili Bay. April activities that attract visitors include the Kauai Concert Association's Concert Series and Spring Gourmet Gala at the Kauai Community College Performing Arts Center, as well as a seasonal musical presentation by the Garden Island Arts Council. The Kauai World Challenge one and two-man canoe/surfski coastal relay race in April also draws spectators at change points such as a Hanamaulu Bay, Kalapaki Bay and Poipu Beach. Many hotels on the island's most popular beaches -- Kappa Beach, Hanalei Beach, Wainiha Beach and Poipu Beach offer April discounts. The Sheraton Kauai Resort in Poipu Beach, for example, offers $100 resort credit with free meals and drinks for children in April 2011.

Maui
Maui is the second largest Hawaiian Island and is characterized by its scenic natural wonders and warm waters. Known as the "Magic Isle," Maui features 80 beaches with 120 miles of shoreline, the 9,740-foot-tall Haleakala summit, scenic drive along the Road to Hana and the historic seaside town of Lahaina. Visitors in April have the opportunity to watch humpback whale that migrate through the island. While the whales can be seen at the shore, many tours are offered that give visitors a closer look. The Pacific Whale Foundation, for example, has a two-hour whale watching cruise available for $25 to $30. Children receive a discounted rate. Additional April activities in Maui include snorkeling in Molokini, horseback riding on Haleakala summit and surfing the shores of Lahaina. Hotels in areas such as Kapalua, Kaanapali, Wailea, Makena and Hana offer April discounts. The Westin Maui Resort and Spa, for example, is offering visitors $50 to $100 resort credit, plus free meals and drinks for children, for travelers in April 2011.

Oahu
Oahu is not only home to the state's capital, Honolulu, it also is home to world-famous Waikiki Beach. The island is characterized by its varied atmosphere, which includes scenic mountain views, urban luxuries and country getaways. Known as the "Heart of Hawaii," the third largest Hawaiian island boasts popular surfing waters. Visitors in April are drawn to the North Shore of the island where some of the world's greatest surfers catch some of the best waves of the year. Other April activities on the island include whale watching and shopping farmer's markets on the North Shore. In Honolulu, mid-April visitors can take part in the Honolulu International Bed Race Festival, a fundraiser and carnival for local charities. During the race, participants push beds through Honolulu's streets. April discounts in Oahu are usually best in Waikiki Beach where a large number of lodging facilities creates competition.
