Birthday Party Ideas With Dora The Explorer

Dora the Explorer is a popular animated television series geared to toddlers that airs on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. Dora is a bilingual youngster who goes on adventures with her best friend Boots the monkey. While on their explorations, Dora and Boots often encounter Swiper, a sneaky fox who likes to steal things from Dora. In each episode Dora teaches viewers Spanish and encourages analytical thinking. Make your young girl's birthday a special one by having a Dora the Explorer theme party. Does this Spark an idea?

Games

Activities on the Nick Jr. website include an animal scavenger hunt. Print out animal tokens that feature Dora and Boots on animals. Laminate and hide the tokens during the birthday parties and send out teams or individuals to search for them.

Pin the tail on the donkey is always a popular game to play at kid parties. Give this classic a Dora the Explorer related theme. From the Nick Jr. website print out "Pin the Tail on Swiper." Put the printout of the sneaky fox on a solid surface. Blindfold the guests and award prizes to those who come closest to landing a fox tail on Swiper.

Dora the Explorer is known for her backpack. Play a backpack discovery game that will keep guests guessing. Fill a backpack with objects of different sizes and textures. Have guests feel through the backpack to try to determine what the items are. Whoever has the most correct answers wins a prize.

Activities

The Nick Jr. website has Dora the Explorer themed activities to print out. Kids will have a blast coloring pages featuring Dora on a pirate adventure. By following the story on the coloring pages, guests can improve their bilingual skills as many words are in English and Spanish.

Binoculars are a helpful tool for Dora when she is on an adventure. Have guests make binoculars from toilet paper rolls or paper towel rolls that can be cut in half. They attach colorful tissue paper to the ends and secure the rolls together with glue or rubber bands. Guests can color the binoculars with crayons or markers and even add Dora the Explorer stickers on the viewers.

Decorations

Dora's favorite colors are purple and red. Decorate with purple and red streamers. Add Dora the Explorer themed balloons to the festivities. Incorporate English and Spanish in some of the decorations. Have banners that read, "Happy Birthday" and the same in Spanish, "Feliz Cumpleaños." For name tags, write the children's names in English and Spanish. A piñata also makes a nice decoration for a Dora the Explorer party.

Food

Since Dora is of Mexican heritage, incorporate Mexican food at the party. Tacos, enchiladas, and quesadillas are foods that kids can enjoy without silverware. Serve nachos and salsa for appetizers and a cake decorated like Dora or Boots. An easier option is to buy or make a sheet cake and decorate it with Dora candles or decorations. Another dessert option is to serve banana splits in honor of Boots the monkey.
