Free Beach Party Games

Everyone enjoys a party on the beach.

Having a party on the beach is a guaranteed good time for kids and adults alike. Almost everyone enjoys a relaxing lounge on the beach, a refreshing swim and tasty food, and beach games can keep the party from dying out. Many games, however, can be costly, especially when you need to make sure that there are enough accessories so everyone can play. Fortunately there are several free beach games that can be just as fun.

Underwater Swimming

If you frequent the beach, snorkel, have a pool or scuba dive, you are sure to have a pair or two of flippers on hand. You will need two plastic cups full of water and two pair of flippers for this game. Make two even teams and line them up one behind the other. Give the first person on each team the flippers and cup of water. On go, the first person for each team has to put the flippers on and hold the cup over their heads (which makes them underwater). The contestants then run to a designated spot, turn around, run back to the line and give the flippers and cup to the next person. The first team to have each member "swim" to the designated spot and back wins.

Cold-Legged Relay

For this game you will need drinks in cold bottles or cans (you can use beer for adults and soda for kids). Everyone gets a partner and is divided into two even teams, forming two lines, each pair behind the other. Each pair is given a can or bottle of a desired beverage and then must run to a cooler placed several yards away and place the drink in the cooler. The drink has to be carried between the pair using their thighs (squeezing it between one person's left thigh and his partner's right thigh so they appear to have three legs). The first team to successfully get all their drinks in the cooler wins. Afterward, it's time to cool off with their drinks.

Sand Castle Contest

For this contest, everyone can divide into teams or choose to play alone. The object is to build a sand castle or sand sculpture. A time limit can be given, as well as tools (plastic cups, forks, knives or spoons from the party) and an objective. The objective can be to make the tallest castle, or the most unique or detailed sculpture. The person or team who best meets the objective is the winner.

Classic Games

There are some classic games that are enjoyable at any outdoor function. Among them are tossing a Frisbee, wiffle ball, three-legged races, mother may I, red-light green light, one two three, catch and Marco Polo. These are all games that have no cost or require items that you likely already have, and are easy for people of all ages to play.
