Fashionable Female Hairstyles

There is a hairstyle for every woman.

A woman's hair is her crowing glory, and ladies the world over devote their time to washing, pampering and styling their mane to make it look gorgeous.

While not everyone has the kind of locks that look amazing just after tumbling out of bed, the right hairstyle coupled with proper styling techniques can help every woman find a look suited to her personality and unique beauty. Does this Spark an idea?

The Bob

The bob hairstyle was the signature look of flappers in the 1920s. During the jazz age, rebellious women cut their long locks into bobs, characterized by blunt bangs (though some versions omit bangs) and flat, smooth hair reaching to the chin or just below it.

Silent film star Louise Brooks was famous for her black bob, and many women sought to emulate her style, creating one of the first celebrity fads.

The bob is still fashionable today, as it is a classic cut that is not overly trendy or difficult to maintain. It is particularly popular with women trying to achieve a vintage look.

The Rachel

Actress Jennifer Aniston inspired women across the world to get their hair cut like Rachel, the character she played on the hit series "Friends". Though the show is no longer on the air, the haircut remains popular and stylish, due in no small part to its simplicity and modern feel.

The Beautiful Hairstyles website describes the look as "a bouncy, angled and layered shag," with shorter pieces framing the face and longer sections draping down over the neck, making it flattering on many women.

Pixie Cut

The pixie cut is a short, close-cropped style, suitable for those who aren't afraid to take risks with their look. The actress Mia Farrow popularized the style in her movie "Rosemary's Baby", for which famed hairstylist Vidal Sassoon gave her a super-short crop which inspired many copycats.

The website Hair Boutique states the pixie is "not ideal for someone with a prominent chin or wide cheekbones" and looks best on those with small, delicate features.

Though the pixie cut needs regular trimming to keep its shape, the style is otherwise low maintenance, making it great for those who want to wash and go.

Long, Loose Waves

Blake Lively of the television show Gossip Girl has made long, loose waves a big trend in hair. The look requires lengthy locks and proper curling to achieve a relaxed natural look that is also timeless.

New York Magazine describes the style as "extra long, ultra-shiny ... with a mussed-up tussle frolicking through the ends," and Marie Claire recommends using a curling iron and texturizing spray to emulate the look at home.
